Kain's Belt Filling Machine
During the first world war an urgent call went out from GHQ France for a better method of refilling the Vickers machine gun belts. The following extract from a tactical summary gave the principle reasons:
“Tactical Summary of Machine Gun Operations 1916 – 1917”
“The failure of machine guns to be able to deliver effective barrage fire in certain operations has invariably been due (traced) to the difficulties in re-loading wet belts by hand (the employment of the existing type of belt loading machine being altogether out of the question)”
